Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST)

Cranial Sacral Therapy is a light-touch therapeutic modality that involves the gentle use of the therapist’s hands in specifically placed positions on the body. Cranial Sacral Therapy is not to be construed as bone manipulation in that it applies no invasive forces, nor does it use any sudden thrusting motion.

Cranial Sacral Therapy uses only strategically placed light touch in order to enhance the body’s own self-correcting mechanisms. Cranial Sacral Therapy does not employ diagnosis or diagnostic methodologies as they are commonly defined. It only determines the quality of normal physiological motion throughout the cranial sacral system, and then uses gentle hand placements in order to enhance the physiological motion in motion-restricted area.

CST primarily facilitates processes that enhance the body’s innate abilities for natural healing. The therapy focuses on removing restrictive forces and obstacles related to the cranial sacral system. Enhancing the mobility of the cranial sacral system improves the circulation of both blood and CSF to the brain, spinal cord, pituitary gland, pineal gland and the cranial nerve systems, among other things.

Improving fluid motion and exchange specifically enhances the functions of the brain; spinal cord; autonomic control systems; visual, auditory, olfactory and gustatory sensory systems; motor and motor coordination systems; endocrine system; and the immune system. Less directly, it seems to affect all other body systems; therefore, it is exceptionally useful for most chronic conditions and as a preventive measure.
